Raising the Bar: Voting in this year's election

Until we get any other better options, we're stuck with what we have now leaving us feeling stuck between a rock and a hard place making it clearer than ever Corporate America needs to back out of the democratic election process. They are a huge part of the problem, considering so many people wanted Bernie the first time and then the second time, but we never got him because CorpAm ensured we wouldn’t. They wanted their corporate puppets in office, which is why we had to decide between Hilary versus Trump. But not enough people went out and voted for Hilary and as a result look what happened? We got Trump.

And then CorpAm wanted Biden. And look what happened as a result. Bernie got dropped and now we’re stuck with horrible option “a” featuring a seven-time alleged rapist and a plainly fascist even more horrible of an option “b”.

So...what now?

Do we elect another new alleged rapist to put into our White House to overthrow the current fascist alleged rapist occupying the oval office? Do we not vote and allow the current president to continue ruling our country?

I know we all want to raise the bar seeing as Trump’s set it so low it’s damn near buried in the ground. (ICE detention centers, his massive rape allegations whose count has nothing on Biden, his blatant complete lack of care for anyone but himself, etc.) So many of us are desperate to raise the bar to our highest standards, but unfortunately all we can do is just raise it past Trump’s. However, there is hope because with our current option we will raise the bar.

But why? Because he hasn’t made fun of disabled people on camera? Because he wouldn’t have built a wall across our country? (he wouldn’t have—it’s not actually in the favor of corporate America. Trump wanted to because he’s filled with so much hatred and rage and wants a “white America”. You realize that’s what MAGA really means, right? Look it up. Seriously.) And the horrible answer is yes. Right now our bar is so low that until we get a better option, we have to work with what we have right now. Even if it doesn't make us happy. Even if we're upset with the idea.

We have to face facts: so long as our current POTUS remains in charge you know he'll try to keep himself in office for as long as he can, doing everything he can to turn America into his perfect monarchy. He’s said as much in the past. Everything he’s done since has been in effort to achieve that goal. Don’t think so? He’s been following Hitler and Putin’s playbooks. Again, look it up! (MSNBC, CNN, Pacific Cos, etc.) Or just type the following into Google: “would trump turn America into a monarchy?” And if he does starting turning America into a monarchy, he'll get away with it because he's gotten away with everything else. Literally everything else.

Biden will keep our democracy. That I have no doubt about. And sure he’d sell us out to corporate America just as Hilary would have. But are we not sold out already to a fascist? Are we not already living in fascist America? I’m not trying to sound dramatic or paranoid. It’s just the facts. For anyone who’s been paying even an ounce of attention to the news, you know it. Who else would keep hundreds of thousands of people locked in fucking cages for “the greater good of America”? And if you think he’s right, that’s only further proof we’ve sold out as a country.

More than that; however, having Bernie got knocked off first for Hilary (corporate America’s bestie) and now Biden (their other bestie) goes to show how sold out we already are. There would be very little change in progress in that regard. Now you might be thinking we need more progress than that. And we do. But unfortunately we are now stuck with what we got. “But Biden’s a rapist!” Okay, but so is our current POTUS!

Does that make it right? Of course not. Do we want to elect another alleged rapist? Absolutely not. Do we really want Biden in office? I hate to say it but unfortunately, I think he has to be. Again, we have to work with the low bar we’ve got.

Fig. 1: a depiction of the bar we have now and how it can be raised in the future

These are rather generous depictions (fig. 1) as the red bar should really be much, much lower than I drew it here, but compared to him Biden does rise higher. And that…that’s unfortunately what we’re working with.

So tell me.

Are you willing to sit with a guy who is one thousand times worse than our other option? Because I’m not. And while it might feel like selling your soul to the devil voting for Biden, we do not yet currently have any other option. Because not voting and letting Trump continue taking office is even worse.

All in all, what I’m trying to say is if you originally wanted someone blue in office but you're now pissed with these allegations against Biden coming to light, please consider still voting Biden because otherwise you are letting Trump resume his reign on America. And if you're willing to do that, why aren't you willing to vote for someone who raises the bar, even if it's just to ground level?
